We are currently living in a world where new technologies and social media plays a vast role in our lives, the two have transformed the way we communicate with one another. Social media in particular has come to be a new emotional outlet, allowing us to express our feelings indirectly as well as openly. A day well spent on holiday or certain social event is captured in a photograph and sent out to the world, feelings are evoked through text in a simple status, moods are evident in the songs that people listen to and the lyrics they quote, subconsiously we as human beings have connected a man made platform to natural behaviours. I started to research how emotion is tracked through technology by using my own social media footprint. Over several weeks I posted a series of statuses on Facebook, with each status there was the aim to make the public answer accordingly and draw forth their feelings without knowing the intentions of this project. A strong feeling derived from one’s circumstances cannot be something you can touch, feel and hold. Technology has allowed me to create the book of emotion you are now holding, using only the images, text, colours, songs etc that people replied with; converting something that could only once be felt internally. |
